Takes a lot to build a town

We are into our third week of building our town. This town is a place where Bee Bots live and go about their daily work. The town is small and the buildings surround a central lake area. There are four suburbs in the town.

Paint, boxes, tissues, sticky tape and egg cartons are among the materials we are using to create the space where our Bee Bots live ,work and play.

BEE BOT CHALLENGE

Today was the first day of our three week Bee Bot Challenge. We thought Bee Bots were just little toys the little kids played with.

Well we learned today how getting those little beetles to do what you want is a lot harder than you think.

We had some challenges we need to complete. These will prepare us to complete the final challenge.

Today we just had to practice telling our Bee Bots what to do. This is called programming the Bee Bots.

This programming is a simpler version of what real computer programmers do.

It was HARD. Really HARD FUN!

We had the ipads to help us photograph, video, make music and keep notes.

Science Stuff . . .

The Learning Stars  have been working on Science activities.

The first thing we did was do the Coke and Mentos Experiment.

Mrs Dyer asked us to think about why we wouldn’t eat a pack of Mentos and then drink coke.

We worked in groups and put our Mentos in the Diet Coke. We now know why you wouldn’t eat and drink just look at the Diet Coke eruption below.

Then we had to do some other experiments.

Our task was

1. Watch a Youtube Science video of some cool science experiments.

We had to watch the video carefully to find out what materials were used in the experiments.

2. We needed to record the steps we had to follow.

Then we had to look at the video again to make sure we had all the information we needed.

Then we got into it  . . . collecting our resources and doing our experiments.

We made

  • Green Goo

  • Magic Milk Patterns

  • Lava Lamps

Lava Lamp Experiment!

Check these out . . .

K to 2 Athletics Carnival

While the big kids were away at their Big Athletics Carnival we had our own great little athletics carnival.

The lovely Mrs Gordon organised for us to do some great things:

  • Noodle javelin
  • Scuzzy ball shot put
  • Frisbee discus
  • Parachute Fun
  • Clap ‘n Catch
  • Sprints

and we finished a top afternoon with a Marathon around the school.

Whew after all that we were bushed  . . .

Do you want to see a real live robot? Look at this!

Introducing Binbot.

He is about 5 metres tall? Although he is quite big he hasn’t been known to hurt anyone, well not intentionally anyway!

Can you work out what he is made of? What other Bot that has appeared in this blog might he be related too?

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Our Hat Parade

We had fun sharing our and parading, showing off in our amazing hats. We had many parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and so many others visit to see our creations that we lost count of the numbers in our audience.

We do like an audience for our work it adds a special purpose for the things we do.

We had a Guessing Competition and some people won great prizes. The Mad Hatter and his helper gave them out.

Does anyone else do this kind of thing?

Rosie the Wombat

Liam writes . . .
Today a local man brought in a baby wombat to show the people in our school. We got to pat the wombat.
Everyone was amazed to see a wombat. They asked if it was a boy or a girl. She is a girl called Rosie.
When we put Rosie on the floor she crawled around.
We learned wombats eat lots and lots of grass, they live in holes and have long claws to dig the holes and for finding roots to eat.

Lara was inspired to write a story about a magical wombat . . .
I’m Lucy a girl from the bush. I have a magical cloud. Whatever I want I get. I don’t use the magical cloud for greedy I only use it for good.
One day I wished the cloud would bring me a wombat.
She was so cute when I saw her. I had to hide her from Mum and Dad, of course they do not know.
I am so happy.
All I wanted was a happy life!

Kailey also put a fantasy spin on her wombat story . . .
“Hello” said Katie to her friend as they were coming through the door.
“I can’t wait until Club Gift time,” she whispered to herself.
It was gifting pet day. They had to use their money to buy a pet and gift it.
First it was Rosie’s turn to give Bella hers. She got a little kitten. Now it’s Katana’s turn to give Ava her gift. Her gift was a hamster.
Now Seraphina has to give me a gift. Mine is a wombat!
