BEE BOT CHALLENGE

Today was the first day of our three week Bee Bot Challenge. We thought Bee Bots were just little toys the little kids played with.

Well we learned today how getting those little beetles to do what you want is a lot harder than you think.

We had some challenges we need to complete. These will prepare us to complete the final challenge.

Today we just had to practice telling our Bee Bots what to do. This is called programming the Bee Bots.

This programming is a simpler version of what real computer programmers do.

It was HARD. Really HARD FUN!

We had the ipads to help us photograph, video, make music and keep notes.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Our Hat Parade

We had fun sharing our and parading, showing off in our amazing hats. We had many parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and so many others visit to see our creations that we lost count of the numbers in our audience.

We do like an audience for our work it adds a special purpose for the things we do.

We had a Guessing Competition and some people won great prizes. The Mad Hatter and his helper gave them out.

We Love Our Local Library

 photo 5photo 4   photo 2

Our local library is the Lithgow Library and it is just down the road.

Our school Library is good and we have Library once a week where we do lots of interesting things with Mr Gill.

But in the Lithgow Library it is different and more fun probably because it is not on the school grounds.

We told our teachers that we loved our local library and they said if we really work hard on our reading and writing we can go there every month!

WOW!!!!!!!

Our Diamonds Love Writing

At the moment we are working on writing about ourselves. We are learning about shaping our letters properly, leaving finger spaces, adding detail and reading our writing our writing to others.

At the end of every Writing Workshop our teachers choose pieces of quality work for us to share with our class. We try so hard to be the ones who are chosen to read our writing. We are learning to love our writing time.

Kindergarten are getting into the hang of Writing and Reading.

They can recognise, name and sound many letters of the alphabet.

They practice their alphabet everyday and all are practising writing their names on the Daily Sign In sheet.

Today we checked out some blogs …

Today in our Writing Workshop we thought it was time we started looking at Blogs from around the world.

We chose to visit two blogs today and practised looking at them and thinking up complimentary things to say about the blogs.

We all agreed it was easy to make up comments because the blogs we visited were awesome.

We visited 1/2 W @ Balwyn Primary School a school in Victoria. It was interesting to see what great builders they are and we were fascinated the class was learning Chinese. WOW!!

We the decided to visit Mrs Myer’s 3rd Graders Reach for the Sky. First thing we did was to find out where Apache ,Arizona is in the World. We found out it is the United States of America and checked it out.

We enjoyed reading about the great things Mrs Myer’s class have been doing since they came back to school.

We noticed that In Apache they sleep when we are awake. We also noticed the school year in Arizona begins in August when ours begins in January. We watched the videos made by the students and heard the girls spoke English like we do but with a different accent.

We are excited about the Blog Challenge 2013. But we will be on holidays from 20 September to 9 October but we WILL BE ABOUT!!

Out of Africa and into Australia

Our Stage 1 Classes are exploring Africa as part of a whole school multicultural theme.

We are reading Mirror a beautiful collage picture book written by Jeannie Baker.

It looks at the daily life of an Australian family and a Moroccan Family.

As well as reading the book with the focus on Morocco we will be looking at many of the animals of Africa. Unlike humans who live within borders the animals roam across the lands of Africa in search of food and water.
